The 2025 citrus export season is expected to end with over 100,000 tons shipped from Argentina to the European Union, doubling last year's volume.
In 2025, the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) certified 107,000 tons of citrus for export to the EU, up from 51,800 tons in 2024. Major destinations included the Netherlands, Spain, Greece, Italy, and Portugal.

Officials and technicians from Senasa and the European Union's Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG Sante) reviewed the Certification Program and actions taken after detections of the Phyllosticta citricarpa fungus in the EU. They also discussed planned improvements for the next season to lower the risk of new detections and to enhance Argentina's phytosanitary certification system.
The virtual meeting was attended by María Beatriz "Pilu" Giraudo, the president of Senasa; Sylvain Giraud from DG Sante; Gastón Funes, the agricultural advisor of Argentina in Brussels; technical teams from both institutions; and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
European authorities agreed with Argentina's presentation and praised the strength of the new citrus export program, led by Senasa and carried out in partnership with public and private sector entities.
