"The growth of machinery imports in Egypt is below initial forecasts"

The boom in Egypt's citrus processing industry in 2025, and the impact it had on the fresh orange market, was predictable a year in advance. One of the first concrete signs was the rush by Egyptian industrialists to import machinery. In 2024, as soon as competition in the orange concentrate industry showed signs of weakening in Brazil, Egyptian manufacturers put pressure on machinery providers to shorten delivery times and bring orange processing lines as soon as Q2 2025.

According to Ahmed Heiza, Egyptian importer of agricultural and agri-food machinery and CEO of Misr Vision, the same trend is continuing this year across various products, although ambition is being tempered by market realities. He says, "Egypt's emergence as a major exporter of fresh produce, driven by geopolitical circumstances, has contributed to the rapid development of the country's machinery industry.

"We are currently seeing, as a natural consequence of this growth, that the trend is now towards the development of food processing industries, which is reflected in the types of machinery being imported, such as orange concentrate last year. However, it must be said that the growth of machinery imports in Egypt is below initial forecasts due to the decrease in profit margins caused by fluctuations in agricultural input prices," Heiza continues.

According to Heiza, the products most concerned by machine orders for 2026 are dried vegetables, frozen vegetables, herbs, spices, and frozen strawberries, for which demand remains strong.

The economic slowdown has led to a growing reliance on used machines, according to the importer. He adds: "Machines from China and Turkey are gaining ground in Egypt, but demand for European machines remains stable thanks to their attractiveness and long service life of over 15 years. I also note that there is still a significant market for used machines from Europe."
