On 12 November 2025, the city of Nurek hosted the "Anor" (Pomegranate) Festival, where local dehkan farms presented a variety of pomegranate cultivars, according to the Executive Authority of Khatlon Region.
The festival served as a platform to promote domestic produce, exchange expertise, and highlight the role of pomegranate cultivation in Tajik agriculture.
Tajikistan has 2,722 hectares of pomegranate orchards, including 1,359 hectares of fruit-bearing trees. As of early October 2025, growers had harvested 4,917 tonnes of pomegranates. The country cultivates five main varieties, with pomegranates considered one of the most economically profitable fruit crops.
One of the largest orchards is located in the Puli Sangin jamoat of Nurek, where 124 hectares are planted with pomegranates. According to orchard manager Alishod Asoev, the site produces up to 60 tonnes annually.
