Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce has identified 15 key agricultural export products that together account for 71% of the country's total exports. These include dried figs, raisins, fresh and dried onions, tomatoes, apples, pistachios, almonds, pomegranates, saffron, cumin, and grapes.
Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesperson for the ministry, said: "These products, which make up 71% of the country's total exports, are being exported to various countries in the region and around the world."
The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) reported ongoing efforts to strengthen international marketing and improve access for Afghan agricultural exports. The chamber has identified the Gulf region, Central Asia, and Europe as growing markets for Afghan products.
Jan Agha Nawid, spokesperson for the ACCI, stated: "The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment has continuously worked and encouraged its members to maintain strong trade relations with various countries, assess international markets, and export Afghan products accordingly."
Wasim Safi, CEO of the Agriculture and Livestock Chamber, emphasized the need to develop processing capacity to meet international standards. "We need to establish processing centers where products can be processed, packaged, and shipped to meet global standards and support exports," he said.
Economic analysts noted that improved product quality, processing, and standardization could enhance Afghanistan's export potential while contributing to employment and reducing dependence on imports. They added that with targeted investment and a clear trade policy, Afghanistan could strengthen its position in regional and global fruit and vegetable markets.
