South African growers report significant increases in quality, size and shelf life

Introlab biostimulants approved for EU distribution

The European Union's recent approval of the biostimulants manufactured by Introlab sees the South African company poised to deepen its engagement with distributors, retailers, and growers across the region. Introlab's biostimulants are already distributed in over twenty countries with more than a hundred product registrations.

Its flagship products Xcell Maxima and Xcell Boost are now distributed and marketed across the European Union, providing growers with proven, science-backed solutions to improve plant health, enhance crop resilience and plant stress tolerance, and boost productivity in a sustainable way, the company says.

"Achieving CE Mark Certification for Xcell Maxima and Xcell Boost is a strategic leap forward for Introlab's international growth," says Hendri Botha, international sales manager at Introlab, founded in 2005. At the recent edition of Fruit Attraction, it was clear that the interest in biostimulants is expanding rapidly.

"It reaffirms our mission to deliver cutting-edge, sustainable agricultural solutions that meet the highest regulatory benchmarks, supporting growers on their path to resilient and environmentally responsible farming."

Through its twenty years of research and development, Introlab says it has become a trusted partner aiding farmers to use their resources more efficiently. Gordon Anderson, farm manager on a pomefruit farm in Greyton, Western Cape, recounts that they had been struggling with sudden drops in fruit pressure as well as with Fusarium after excessive rainfall. They approached Introlab to find a solution to these challenges. "A big aspect that stood out for me about the Introlab trials and products that we sprayed, was especially with calcium: the calcium absorption was 66% better than we had before. I have to say it has addressed our problems very effectively."

Anderson adds that Introlab biostimulants were also applied to the soil, and he discerns a marked improvement in root hair development. Not only did fruit size and fruit yield increase, he notes, but the increased fruit firmness lengthens its shelf life. "We witnessed a 101% improvement in the fruit quality, which translates to a 56% increase in total revenue for this orchard, and it has to be as a result of the Introlab programme." They are now planning to incorporate Introlab into all of their apple and pear orchards.

When growers thrive, communities and ecosystems thrive too, Botha remarks. "Introlab's mission is to advance regenerative agriculture through scientifically robust, environmentally conscious solutions."
