Prices across the horticultural sector in Australia remain generally lower compared to the same period last year, although some mixed results were recorded. Vegetable prices are broadly stable to slightly weaker, except brown onions, which are trading higher. Onion producers in South Australia have reported challenges following near-record dry conditions earlier in the year, which reduced both yields and quality. Rising input costs are also pressuring margins and, in recent months, these costs have been passed on to retailers.
In the berry sector, supply has increased with fruit of consistent quality now readily available. Current prices are at their lowest levels for this time of year since 2022. Demand is expected to remain strong as the season progresses.

Almond exports to India have continued to grow, with year-to-date shipments now at the second-highest level on record. Increased local production, ongoing trade tensions between the US and India, and continued benefits from the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AIECTA) have supported exports. At the same time, China has emerged as an important destination for Australian almonds.
Looking ahead to 2026, uncertainty over US trade policy remains a risk. Should India or China reach new trade agreements with the US, Australia's current advantage could weaken. With a large Californian crop expected, the ability of Australian exporters to maintain preferential market access will be an important factor for the sector's performance.
