Spanish police seize 1.5 tons hashish in oranges

The National Police in Malaga province have intercepted a shipment of 1,579 kilograms of hashish concealed among oranges in a lorry. Two people, the driver and passenger of the vehicle, were arrested during the operation.

The incident occurred on the A-7 motorway near Vélez-Málaga on the Costa del Sol, with the lorry heading in the direction of Malaga. Officers from the Udyco serious crime squad observed that a car was driving closely behind the lorry, with its occupants appearing nervous and watchful. Police suspected the car was conducting counter-surveillance or security duties.

Reinforcements were called to the area. Once the car's occupants noticed that they were being followed, they performed an evasive manoeuvre and managed to escape. The lorry, however, was intercepted at one of the motorway exits.

Upon inspection, officers discovered the narcotics hidden in orange plastic balls designed to blend with the legitimate fruit cargo.

The two individuals in the lorry were taken into custody, and the court has ordered them to remain in prison while proceedings continue. The investigation to identify and locate the occupants of the car that evaded capture is ongoing.
