Taiwan caps cabbage prices after typhoon

The Ministry of Agriculture in Taiwan collaborates with retail chains to create affordable cabbage sections after Typhoon Danas impacted farms in central and southern regions.

The Agriculture and Food Agency (AFA) declared that from July 18 to July 27, a cabbage promotion zone operates at 1,581 supermarket and hypermarket branches, ensuring a maximum price of NT$90 (US$3.06) per head.

The collaboration includes organizations managing refrigerated inventories to maintain market supply. The initiative includes PX Mart, RT-Mart, Carrefour, and A.mart.

AFA reports southern Taiwan suffered from the storm, yet northern highland-grown produce and facility-grown vegetables remain largely unaffected. Leafy greens from Taoyuan, highland cabbages, sprouts, root vegetables, and mushrooms continue to be available.

Availability is supported by abundant inventory from the winter harvest and stable international shipping, supplementing the domestic supply. Farmers in affected zones are preparing land for replanting, with leafy greens and gourds expected to recover in early August.
