Thailand's Department of Internal Trade has moved swiftly to distribute over 95 tons of seasonal fruit that was stuck due to the closure of the Cambodian border. The move is part of a public-private effort to stabilise prices and support farmers, as reported by Thailand Plus.
So far, 20 tons have been purchased by central government agencies and listed companies. This includes 2 tons of longan acquired by Osotspa Public Company. Another 75 tons, valued at around $135,000, are being sold directly to consumers via provincial trade offices nationwide.
Fruits include durian, mangosteen, longan, lychee, mango, pineapple, and watermelon sourced from key growing areas such as Chanthaburi, Rayong, and Trat.
The department plans to extend the campaign to southern provinces later this month, starting with outlets in Phuket. The initiative aims to expand market access and prevent further losses for fruit growers impacted by export disruptions.
