Landgard launches German broccoli florets without stalks for the first time

"Less waste, less effort in preparation, and faster enjoyment"

Starting in early June, Landgard eG will be bringing a familiar vegetable in a new, well-thought-out form to grocery stores: fresh German broccoli florets, without stalks. "What sounds like a small change at first glance is a real innovation with a big impact – for consumers, producers, and the environment. Together with our member company, the family-run Winzen farm in Brüggen on the Lower Rhine, we have further developed our broccoli range and optimized it to meet the needs of everyone involved," says the product announcement.

According to the company, the advantages of the new marketing format are obvious: "For consumers, broccoli without stalks means less waste, less preparation and quicker enjoyment. For our producers, it opens up a valuable opportunity: even broccoli that does not meet the classic standard size can now be sold as a high-quality product instead of being discarded. For all of us, it is a conscious step toward more sustainable food production and a sign of appreciation for regional, healthy products."

The new broccoli florets will be available in stores just in time for the start of the German harvest season.

Domestic broccoli from June to November
Broccoli cultivation has a long tradition at the Winzen farm in Brüggen. Martin Winzen took over the farm from his father in the early 1990s. Young and motivated, he was seeking another source of income. A colleague encouraged him to try growing broccoli. At that time, the green cabbage vegetable was experiencing a small boom, so the experiment was quickly crowned with success. The initial two to three hectares of cultivation area grew to over 100 hectares over the years. Harvesting usually takes place from June to November.
