In 2025, Kyrgyzstan saw a significant increase in vegetable imports, especially from neighboring countries.
According to the General Administration of Customs of China, the volume of potatoes imported into Kyrgyzstan steadily increased: 4,800 tonnes in January, over 8,000 tonnes in February, and more than 21,000 tonnes in March. The total value of these imports reached $30 million. These deliveries resumed in 2025 after a seven-month break. The rise in imports came amid increasing domestic potato prices, which, according to the National Statistics Committee, rose by one-third from January to mid-April, up to 62 KGS/kg.
Tomato imports also grew during the same period. In January and February 2025, Kyrgyzstan imported 2,500 tonnes of tomatoes from Turkmenistan, worth $2.2 million. This is an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 2,200 tonnes worth $1.6 million were imported. The average price per tonne rose from $715 to $885. Additionally, Kyrgyzstan purchased 168 tonnes of tomatoes from China for $194,000, and 108 tonnes from Uzbekistan for $117,000.
At the same time, Kyrgyzstan exported more than 2,355 tonnes of cabbage worth $404,900 during the first two months of 2025. By contrast, only 8,8 tonnes worth $4,200 were exported in January–February 2024. The main buyer was Russia, importing 2,009.6 tonnes worth $341,900, followed by Kazakhstan with 324,4 tonnes for $61,400, and Poland with 21,5 tonnes for $1,600.
