Thai durians see strong sales in Myanmar, outpacing local seasonal varieties

According to the Mandalay Fruit Market, Thai durians are experiencing robust sales. There are three varieties: Phonmani, Monhtaung, and Channi. These differ from Myanmar durians, which are characterized by thinner flesh and a sweeter profile. Thai durians, known for their thicker flesh, are priced higher and sold by weight. A Thai durian wholesaler noted, "The market for Thai durian is very good... The price and sales are better. They are available all year round. This is their season."

Distribution of Thai durians occurs through Yangon, with imports arriving from Thailand or Tachilek. The fruit is popular in several locations, including Yangon, Mandalay, Taunggyi, Aungban, Kalaw, and Heho. The wholesaler explained, "We order it from Thailand and distribute it through Yangon. Some people from Tachilek also import it. Its markets include Yangon, Mandalay, Taunggyi, Aungban, Kalaw, Heho, etc. The market is good."

In contrast, Myanmar durians, such as the Toungoo and Mawlamyine varieties, are seasonal and expected to be available in March, April, and early monsoon periods.
