Kazakhstan imported 326,000 tons of vegetables in the first half of 2024, shortening by 16.4%

In the first half of the year, Kazakhstan's vegetable imports decreased by 16.4% to 326,000 tons, totalling $130.4 million.

Imports of onions and garlic fell by 1.5 times to 118,300 tons, with reductions from Uzbekistan (101,700 tons) and Tajikistan (12,900 tons), while imports from China rose slightly. Beetroot and celery imports nearly halved to 10,500 tons, with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, and Kyrgyzstan as key suppliers. Lettuce imports also declined by 10.3% to 1,800 tons.

However, cabbage imports increased by 1.5 times to 67,800 tons, mainly from Uzbekistan and China. Carrot imports grew by 45.4% to 23,600 tons, with supplies from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. Tomato and aubergine imports also rose, primarily from Turkmenistan, Iran, and China.
