Kyrgyzstan has begun exporting melons and watermelons to Russia and Kazakhstan and is negotiating the establishment of a "green corridor" to facilitate the transportation of these crops, which was highlighted in the Ministry.
The export of melons and watermelons from Kyrgyzstan is profitable due to large volumes, despite increased logistics and transportation costs. To maximize profits, it is beneficial to supply products to the northern regions of Kazakhstan and Russia, where demand and prices are higher.
Kyrgyzstan's mountainous climate does not hinder the export of significant volumes of agricultural products over long distances. There is potential for developing processing facilities in the country. According to experts, processing and preserving perishable products like strawberries, melons, and watermelons through canning or freezing will enable their export to international markets. This will require substantial investments at all stages of production: from cultivation and harvesting to storage and transportation.
This year, 10,190 hectares in Kyrgyzstan have been planted with melons and watermelons, primarily in the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Chuy regions. With average yields of 25–40 tons per hectare and a market price of EUR 0.11 per kilogram, net profits can reach up to EUR 2,500 per hectare.
