Goji berries are being harvested in the Zhongning area of Ningxia. The weather in the production area is favourable with less rainfall this season, which is beneficial for the harvest. The output of goji berries is roughly the same as last year, and the quality is relatively ideal.
"The current price performance of new goji berries is similar to that in the past. As it is still early in the harvest season, goji berries have not yet been put on the market in large quantities, so the price trend is not yet clear. Domestic market demand has slightly decreased compared with the past," said Mr. Evan Guo of Ningxia Baishi Hengxing Food Technology Co., Ltd., a company primarily engaged in the purchase, processing, and domestic and foreign sales of goji berries.
"Since goji berry cultivation requires a lot of labour and is intensive, but the income is not as good as expected, many growers have switched to other crops since last year. Although this situation has not expanded rapidly this year, it is continuing, and the planting area of goji berries is decreasing. Therefore, it is estimated that the price should not fall. On the other hand, due to the decline in market demand, it is estimated that there is not much room for price increases."
"Customers in the export market have begun to inquire one after another. From the current perspective, the purchasing power of overseas markets, especially the European and American markets, has declined. Shipping costs to Europe have increased, and the shipping time is unstable. It is expected that sales to the European and American markets this year may decline." Most of the goji berries used for export are produced in the Qinghai production area and will be harvested at the end of August and the beginning of September. It is expected that the export situation and price will be clearer by September. The weather forecast for the Qinghai production area in July predicts low temperatures and rain, which is not conducive to growth. If this weather continues, it is estimated that it will affect the picking and quality of the first batch of goji berries.
"From the perspective of the international market, the purchasing power of the Southeast Asian market is relatively good, and the logistics are convenient. We plan to maintain our existing market while focusing more on developing the Southeast Asian market this year."
Ningxia Baishi Hengxing Company has more than ten years of experience in exporting goji berries, with export markets including the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.
