Port workers in Germany, particularly at North Sea ports, initiated another round of warning strikes lasting 24 hours, starting from 6 a.m. on Monday, 17 June, to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, 18 June. This action aimed to press demands amid ongoing disputes with the Central Association of German Seaport Operators (ZDS) over collective wage negotiations. The strikes follow similar actions last week at Bremerhaven and Hamburg ports.
Trade union ver.di confirmed the industrial action, timed to coincide with the third round of negotiations scheduled for 17 and 18 June. The strikes exacerbate existing challenges in German and European supply chains, compounded by recent floods affecting rail freight and previous strikes since late 2023.
METRANS, a rail freight company, alerted customers about potential disruptions, cautioning that the strikes at North Sea ports will intensify the backlog already affecting operations. The situation underscores ongoing disruptions in the logistics sector, affecting cargo handling and transport across the region.
