BreedingValue publishes second newsletter edition

Strategies for resilient and high-quality berries

The EU-funded Horizon 2020 project BreedingValue publishes a newsletter series which takes you on an exciting journey as the project develops innovative, sustainable, and competitive breeding strategies for resilient and high-quality berries while navigating the ever-present challenges such as climate change and environmental preservation.

The BreedingValue project is now in its fourth year and continues to be innovative in advancing and developing sustainable berry-breeding strategies. In 2023 and the first half of 2024, the BreedingValue consortium organised various scientific and community-engaging activities such as a highly-attended Workshop on IP Protection and Regulatory Aspects for Crops in March 2023 in Dresden (Germany) as well as a Workshop on Genomic tools for berry pre-breeding material in February 2024 in Bordeaux (France).

As training as an integral part of the BreedingValue work programme and the engagement with the breeding community of utmost importance to achieve our project objectives, three Berry Schools - one of each of the berry species studied within the project – were organised and hosted by our consortium partners in 2023. Various dissemination activities, also carried out in international contexts (ISHS symposia and fairs such as Macfrut), have had a very broad impact on the technical-scientific community and on the production world of the fruit and vegetable sector.

This 2nd newsletter edition also provides an update on the latest progress of the scientific work, as well as developments from BreedingValue Open Call projects. Additionally, an overview of upcoming events where BreedingValue will be represented as well as publications resulting from the project is included.

The 2nd issue of the BreedingValue newsletter is available on the project website: newsletter_issue2.pdf (breedingvalue.eu)
