Malaysian durian exporter wants to expand into China

Hernan Corporation, recognized as Malaysia's largest durian exporter, has set a target to export 30,000 tons of durian to China within the next five years. This initiative is in response to the growing demand for durians in China. To facilitate this expansion, Hernan plans to invest between MYR30-50 million over the next three years for the construction of two new durian processing factories within Malaysia.

Yang Hon Shung, the commercial director of Hernan, highlighted the significant demand in China, where "Last year alone China imported 1.3 million tons of durian, with demand expected to grow annually by 5-6%". He noted the popularity of Musang King and Black Thorn durian varieties among Chinese consumers, both of which are indigenous to Malaysia. Furthermore, Hernan is exploring market opportunities in India and Indonesia, adding to its current exports to 22 countries.
