Addressing the 10th GAIA Business Conference in Kalamata, Minister of Rural Development and Food Lefteris Avgenakis highlighted the forthcoming challenges of food sufficiency and the climate crisis. He emphasized the necessity for Europe to adopt a Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) that is "modern, dynamic and completely developmental," capable of addressing the increasing difficulties and unpredictability faced by farmers.
Avgenakis noted that Greece has initiated amendments to the CAP, having submitted the first request for the transformation of its Strategic Plan. These efforts are aimed at making the CAP more adaptable to the climate crisis challenges. The European Parliament's decision to revise the CAP is seen as a "triple victory" for European farmers, for Greece, and for Europe, according to Avgenakis.
