"Start of the season for Red Egg, Red Egg Mini, and Chica tomatoes"

The Dutch tomatoes Red Egg, Red Egg Mini, and Chica from The Greenery are stepping up to the plate to meet the ever-growing European demand for high-quality tomato brands and have become an indispensable part of the range for retailers, detailers, and fresh produce traders. The Greenery, Kwekerij Nico Duijvestijn, and Kwekerij 't Woudt cultivate the Red Egg and Chica, while Leon Slaman grows the Red Egg Mini. The growers achieve a short supply chain through direct shipments.

Red Egg
As the name suggests, the Red Egg is egg-shaped. This shape ensures that when sliced, it produces beautifully even tomato slices. This tomato has more flesh than its plum tomato counterparts and loses almost no moisture when cut, making it an ideal tomato for sandwiches. The Red Egg has a sweet and spicy taste.

The Greenery growers Tom and Theo Ammerlaan and Nico Duijvestijn cultivate these Red Egg tomatoes. "In our company, we do everything within our power to supply the best products to the customer. Thus, we deliver the right quality while providing a good service and a high degree of flexibility," says Theo Ammerlaan. The product is packaged directly at its origin in customer-specific packaging, after which it is distributed throughout Europe.

Red Egg Mini
In addition to the regular Red Egg, there is also a Red Egg Mini. This is a surprising and extra sweet mini tomato on the vine. The Greenery grower Leon Slaman, along with his brother Eric, cultivates this Red Egg Mini tomato. Just like the Red Egg, the Red Egg Mini has a characteristic and recognizable egg shape. The tomato is firm and fleshy with the right amount of juice, has a high brix (9-11), and has a shelf life of up to 14 days! The Red Egg Mini is available in a 3 kg, 30x40cm branded Red Egg box.

Chica is a brand reserved for high-quality on-the-vine cherry tomatoes and was developed in partnership with The Greenery. Over the years, the Chica brand has proven its worth and stands out for the product's high quality and remarkable appearance. This tomato is available year-round and is part of the standard range of most leading traders and retailers.

The Chica has a high brix value, which makes them very sweet and popular for salads, garnishes or as a snack. Wessel van Koppen, from Kwekerij 't Woudt, says, "Chica tomatoes ripen evenly. We harvest them fully ripe so the clusters have a uniform appearance at delivery. The clusters are pruned to 14-16 pieces, which allows each to look practically straight. The green part of the cluster stays fresh for a long time, and the fruits are firmly attached to the cluster. It a truly high quality product."

In addition to the popular red cherry tomatoes on the vine, Chica tomatoes are also available in orange and yellow, allowing for different mix compositions. The packing station is directly adjacent to the location of Kwekerij 't Woudt in Schipluiden. This allows them to supply the different colored cherry tomatoes on the vine in various packaging options.

To further support the start of the Dutch Chica season, customers will receive promotional materials with their orders in weeks 17 and 18. "A unique way to put the Chica in the spotlight in different markets."
