Citrus farming is primary fruit-growing sector in Paraná state

In Paraná, Brazil, citrus cultivation is highlighted as the primary fruit-growing sector by the Agricultural Situation Bulletin from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), under the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab). The report identifies Paranavaí, Cerro Azul, and Altônia as key areas for the cultivation of oranges, tangerines, and lemons, respectively.

2022 data reveals that citrus farming represents 53.7% of the state's total fruit-growing area, with 55.2 thousand hectares dedicated to orchards. Citrus fruits account for approximately 63.4% of the 1.3 million tons of fruit produced in Paraná. The majority of orange production, peaking from July, is processed into concentrated juice and by-products for export, alongside juice for domestic consumption. Tangerine harvests, commencing this month, are primarily aimed at the fresh market, necessitating marketing strategies to address their high perishability over a 10-week supply period.
