The supply of Brazilian limes is once again falling and prices are expected to soar in the coming weeks, according to Patricia Antón, exotic fruit purchasing manager at the importing and trading company Cultivar, based in Barcelona.
"Overall, we've been having shortages, hence the high prices at the beginning of the year. Subsequently, there has been more stability, giving us more reasonable prices," says the Cultivar sales representative.
However, the situation is set to take a 180-degree turn. "More recently, due to the shortage of Brazilian limes, the market has heated up again," says Patricia Antón. "Therefore, in the coming weeks, we expect prices to return to the high levels recorded at the beginning of the year," she says.
"We do not expect the current situation to change much, at least until June," says Patricia Antón regarding the forecast for the coming months. "After that, we hope to have a better product."
In the 2023 campaign, Cultivar imported around 3,500,000 kilos of limes. For this year, the company expects to increase its volumes by about 8%.
