Vegetable price surge in coastal area of Karnataka

In Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, the cost of beans and various vegetables has escalated due to rising temperatures and an increase in auspicious events. Beans, which were once available for Rs 50 to 60 per kg, have seen prices double to Rs 100 per kg. This hike is attributed to water shortages in Bengaluru and Chikkamagaluru, the main supply areas for these coastal regions.

Similarly, water scarcity has influenced the pricing of other vegetables. Garlic prices, after a significant rise, settled at Rs 200 per kg. Lemon prices have increased, with medium sizes now priced between Rs seven to eight. Ginger is currently valued at Rs 160 to 200 per kg, onions at Rs 30, tomatoes at Rs 25, ridge gourd at Rs 60 to 70, okra at Rs 40, yam at Rs 80, and green brinjal at Rs 80.
