Uzbekistan plans to boost agricultural exports to $3.5 billion

Uzbekistan aims to escalate its agricultural exports to $3.5 billion, according to local reports. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently convened a meeting to discuss the growth of the country's fruit, vegetable, and food sectors. Despite a 4.1% increase in agricultural output in 2023, totaling nearly $2 billion in exports, the nation's export potential remains underexploited.

Mirziyoyev highlighted the need for new market exploration and product procurement for export within the fruit and vegetable industry. He directed the Agency for Quarantine and Plant Protection to lead these initiatives. Measures have been implemented to protect plants, conduct soil analyses, and digitize field processes. The country has obtained approximately 620 phytosanitary permits, enabling product export to roughly 80 countries in recent years.

Plans for 2024 were also discussed, including boosting agricultural exports to $3.5 billion, increasing fruit, vegetable, and grape production, and developing modern export infrastructure at the international airports of Ferghana, Tashkent, and Samarkand. The President also instructed to ensure food security and produce items for export.
