"After 35 years of trading mushrooms and 40 years of growing them, it's time to look to the future. I've decided to hand over my business to my brother Mari's three sons, Bart, Roy, and Mike. Bart will take care of logistics, planning, and some sales. Roy will be responsible for cultivation, and Mike will focus on general matters," Johan van Namen says.
"I loved my job. I've known some customers for 35 years and still supply them with mushrooms. So, it's vital that the transfer goes smoothly. These young men have a broad outlook and are ambitious. I'm sure it will go well, especially given their commitment. The company will continue as VN Trading and VN Productions (VN stands for Van Namen)."
"My son, although he works in horticulture, isn't interested in continuing in my footsteps. He told me that from a young age. That's why I chose this path in which I'll keep supporting the boys as needed. Experience must ultimately be shared," explains Johan.
"I want to thank everyone I've worked with. I might run into or visit many of you, and my door is always open for a friendly chat and a cup of coffee if you're in the area. Kerkdriel, in the beautiful Bommelerwaard, is a wonderful vacation and recreation spot."
"Namen Champignons has been dedicated to producing high-quality mushrooms for 60 years. VN Trading was founded in 2021, and Oké Trading was acquired. We proudly deliver about 150 tons of mushrooms every week, 110 tons of white and 40 tons of chestnut mushrooms," Johan points out.
Mike: "My brothers, Bart (28), Roy (26 jaar), and I are working on taking over the family business. As a recent business and Agri-food business graduate, I bring fresh insights and an innovative approach. We want to pursue a sustainable and progressive course. We're currently busy dedicating a 5.6-hectare piece of land to growing mushrooms."
"This development lets us establish a new, sustainable, innovative nursery, which we'll expand in several phases. The site will function as a mushroom cultivation, packaging, and distribution center. We aim to stay a leading mushroom market partner and supplier," Mike concludes.
