Week 46 Fruit Wholesale Market Report

Arrivals of air-freighted cherries down, Australian nectarines hit the market

The arrival of air-freighted cherries this week was relatively concentrated, with a significant increase in quantity, specification and variety compared to previous weeks. In addition to Brooks, the varieties on sale include Santina, Royal Dawn, and Bing, among which Santina accounts for a relatively large proportion. It is understood that the overall hardness is good, and the taste and color uniformity vary depending on different brands and batches.

In terms of sales, there are currently more merchants asking for prices and waiting, and the quantity of sales is not large. The overall sales are slow, and only a few big brands are sold quickly. Prices have gradually declined this week, especially in the second half of the week, with large price differences between different brands and different arrival qualities. In terms of variety, Santina has a relatively better price.

According to merchants, due to the recent continuous rainfall in the Chilean production area, which has affected the harvest and shipment of cherries, the arrival volume in the early production season is less than before, so the overall market price has been higher for a longer period. In addition, the exact information about air charter flights, and sea shipping schedules is still unclear, and many merchants said that it is difficult to estimate the production season and market trends at this stage. At present, the sales of cherries have not yet stimulated the market, and merchants are looking forward to a larger arrival.

Australian nectarines are on the market, and the quantity is limited. It is reported that this year's production season is about two weeks earlier than in the past. The early price is not much different from in the past. The fruits are hard and crisp, and the large fruits are ideal for sales.

The average price of Peruvian blueberries stays at ¥140-150/piece. Recently, there have been fewer arrivals, and the price has increased slightly. The price of the sweet variety, Magica is still relatively high. The merchant said that batches with high prices can also be sold, but it is difficult to shift larger volumes. This year's blueberry production season in Yunnan has started early. Limited volumes of blueberries have been arriving since the beginning of the month, and it is expected that a larger volume will arrive at the end of the month.

The avocado market is relatively stable, and domestic avocados continue to arrive. According to merchants, the overall quality of domestic avocados has not been stable due to the short development and planting time. The quality varies depending on the place of origin and brand. There are also some fruits with relatively satisfactory quality. Some stalls said that the arrival of domestic avocados this year is more than last year, and many of them have been sold during the morning market.

Chinese Avocados

Durian imports are mainly Vietnamese Kanyao and Thai Monthong, and the arrivals are small. Vietnamese Kanyao is at the beginning of the production season. Currently, A3-class fruits cost about ¥380-390/piece. Merchants say that the quality is good, and the peak arrival is expected to be in mid-December. The price of Thai Monthong is relatively high due to the small supply. In the early part of this week, the price of A6-class durians was about ¥1200/piece, and the price dropped by one to two hundred yuan in the second half of the week.

Due to the high overall price, there are fewer merchants purchasing durians. Merchants said that during this period, there were more liquid nitrogen durians or frozen durians for sale on the market. Firstly, the quantity of fresh durians was small, and secondly, there was a large backlog of durians in the market this year, so more sales were switched to frozen durians.

Strawberries

In terms of domestic fruits, Sichuan Papagan oranges are the most common citrus, and they were on the market earlier than before. It is understood that due to the high market popularity and good prices of Papagan oranges in recent years, the number of merchants engaged in Papagan this year has increased significantly compared with the past. A small amount of winter strawberries have been put on the market. Merchants said that the strawberries are produced in Dandong and came on the market earlier this year. They currently sell for about ¥40/box (400 grams).
