The opening of the Vietnam market for Chilean kiwis and air shipments of cherries is advancing

An official delegation of Chile's Ministry of Agriculture has traveled to Asia, with stops in Vietnam, South Korea, and China, to continue working on the opening of markets and improving the conditions of entry of Chilean agricultural products into this continent.

The delegation was in Vietnam on October 10 and 11, where it met with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, Hoang Trung, and authorities of the Department of Plant and Animal Health of Vietnam, among others.

"We managed to advance with the Vietnamese vice-minister in a very complete itinerary to facilitate the exchange of fruits. We want to be able to export cherries by air and open the Vietnamese market to Chilean kiwis. Meanwhile, they're interested in sending mango, passion fruit, and other products from the southern part of Vietnam to Chile," stated Minister Esteban Valenzuela.

"We achieved an important advance for the entry of our fresh kiwis to the Vietnam market. In fact, a mission from the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture will visit our country in March within the framework of this opening. Regarding air exports of our fresh cherries, we agreed to send a proposal to carry out a pilot plan this season, which would involve the travel of Vietnamese technicians to Chile," the general manager of Asoex stated.

Canala-Echeverría added: "We are very happy that Minister Valenzuela is in Vietnam; a market in which our fruit exports have been experiencing very important growth, especially in recent years. Last season we sent about 600 million boxes of cherries and grapes to this market, and it's very likely that we'll double the volume of cherries this season."

The director of the SAG also expressed his satisfaction with what was achieved in Vietnam: "We met with the president of the Economic Commission and representatives of the agricultural sector, who have given us all the support to be able to advance in this mission. Work remains to be done and we hope to a Vietnamese delegation visits us in Chile at the beginning of next year to close agreements that benefit the national agricultural sector."
