The Kurdistan Region is set to export apples from the mountainous areas of Barwari in Duhok to the United Arab Emirates. Apples from the Barwari region, well-known for their good quality across the Kurdistan Region, are being prepared as we speak. Local authorities have held seminars to point out the mechanisms apple farmers will have to follow to export their produce.
"We established these procedures at the start of the year, such as initiating training programs for farmers, and our seminar is currently aligned with its continuation," stated the Director General of Agriculture in Duhok, Ahmed Jamil. "Certain apples have reached the stage of being prepared for export."
One of the producing areas is the Barwari region, in the Hakkari mountains in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey. This region produces between 350-450,000 tons of apples yearly; it is the most famous product of the region.
