Vanessa Bersuat, Biogaronne: “We feel a rebound in the sales dynamics of organic products.”

France: Good demand for 100% organic colored chard

Biogaronne, a group of producers specialized in the sale of organic products, has been marketing colored chard for about 2 weeks. “This is the second year that we sell organic colored chards. Last year, the quantities were not significant because we first wanted to test the market. Since the tests were conclusive, we decided to intensify the volumes this year,” explains Vanessa Bersuat, sales manager at Biogaronne.

Colored chard

A product appreciated for its colors
100% organic and sold in packaging of 5 kg, the company sells around 3 pallets per week to wholesalers throughout France and to stores in the southwest of the country. “The demand is good, sales are really fluid. Wholesalers in particular appreciate this product because it brings a lot of color to their stalls - pink, red, salmon, orange, yellow - which brightens up their offer when they are at the crossroads of seasons with a smaller range of products.”

Radish

Sales are better than last year
Besides the colored chard, Biogaronne also sells traditional chard. “We have large volumes of pink radish at the moment, and we are in the middle of the season for garlic bunches, a specialty of southwestern France which corresponds to the beginning of a garlic head sold in small bunches. It has the smell of fresh garlic and is cooked like an onion. It is a very popular product which we launched five years ago.”

All these products are selling well in this period considered to be delicate for the organic sector. “Sales are better than last year. We can feel a rebound in the trade dynamics on the entire range. Now, prices just need to go up for the producers.”

Strawberries available this week
This week, Biogaronne will start the campaign of one of its flagship products: the strawberry. “The season is starting right on schedule. We already feel a certain anticipation around strawberries. Our clients have been expecting them.”
