Chairman Azad seeks special package for fruit growers of Kashmir

Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has demanded a special aid package for Kashmir fruit growers in form of extra levies on apple imports.

Azad spoke at a gathering in Shopian, saying: "The fruit bowl of Kashmir, Shopian has suffered a lot during decades of uncertainty and now requires attention of the government which it should give by providing hassle free movement of apple laden trucks after the harvest and cess [levies, ed.] on apple import."

Expressing concern  over drop in the rates of apple during peak season, he sought a special package from the federal government to rehabilitate fruit growers as they are suffering losses.
