Cooperative from Extremadura surpassed the 100 million turnover barrier

Acopaex, the second-degree cooperative, closed 2022 with a record turnover that exceeded 102 million euro. “Overcoming the lack of water has been a great handicap for our agricultural partners,” stated Juan Francisco Blanco, the managing director of Acopaex, recalling the concern about water shortages and water restrictions during the past year, which strongly affected some crops, such as tomatoes.

“In addition, they had to deal with the increase in the price of inputs. The result is that there are farmers and cooperatives that have invoiced more and others that have lost money. Fortunately, the overall balance is positive,” Blanco stated.

The turnover of fruits, in particular, increased by nearly 9 million euro. In total, 4.7 million kilos of plums, 1.4 million kilos of peaches, 2.8 million kilos of nectarine, 200,000 kilos of pear, and 150,000 kilos of donut peaches were marketed.

Tomato, its star product, experienced a significant drop, going from 500.00 tons to 330,000 tons this year, as producers planted 2,000 fewer hectares.

There was also a considerable increase in turnover in broccoli, peppers, other vegetables, and almonds, especially in the latter, which went from 620,000 euro in 2021 to 1,720,000 in the last campaign.
