Rugby and patented oranges

When innovation meets sport and supports South African fruit production

"To further consolidate our relationship with rugby, a sport which we share many of our company values with," says Daniele Campagnaro, CEO of Agricola Lusia, "we decided to support Rugby Rovigo, entering as one of the shareholders, embracing their ambitious project and hoping to be able to bring our small contribution to the growth of the movement in our Country."

Similar goals are pursued by the company as well, through the development of its most innovative project named "Juices of Joy" (I Succosi di Gioia) the only oranges with guaranteed juiciness, result of a 6-years collaboration with the University Ca' Foscari of Venice. “This ambitious project led us to elaborate a patented method which allows to scientifically select each individual orange based on its juice content, using objective and measurable parameters, without destroying the fruit, and thus in a completely sustainable way” continues Daniele Campagnaro.

For over 20 years, Agricola Lusia, an Italian company led by the Campagnaro family, has been operating in the distribution of citrus products, both local and imported, to Italian retailers.

An important impulse to the company's development, and in particular to the import side of the business, is to be attributed to the successful collaboration with Danilo Ortolani, a well-known figure in the Italian fruit and vegetable sector, and a long-time collaborator of Agricola Lusia. Thanks to Mr. Ortolani, direct and long-term relationships were established with some of the main players in the South African citrus industry, characterized not only by belonging to the agri-business, but also by the common interest in rugby, the national sport of the African Country but also historically rooted in the territory of Rovigo, and promoted by the presence among its ranks of champions from the Rainbow Nation such as Naas Botha, winner with Rugby Rovigo of two Italian championships in 1987-88 and 1988-89.

Following the success achieved in Italy and its internalization future goals, Agricola Lusia has decided to showcase the project with a dedicated stand (Halle 2.2 C-30) at the forthcoming edition of Fruit Logistica taking place in Berlin from February 8th to 10th, to introduce “I Succosi di Gioia” to a global public increasingly interested in innovative and distinctive products.
