The new Spanish orange season has started at Frukar. Thinking ahead to the future, this Dutch company has developed a new strong cardboard box for Serena oranges. It is in the style of Spanish architect Antoni GaudÃ.
"It's really up to what buyers prefer, packaging-wise. We have something for everyone. We offer the oranges in EPS (15 or 8 kg), net packaging (1, 1.5, 2, or 3 kg), wooden boxes (15 or 10 kg), and 15kg cardboard boxes," says Willem Koole.
"We've received oranges under the Serena label from the 'authentic' Spanish orange region, Valencia, for more than 30 years. That family business has been exporting citrus since 1965. They don't only sort their fruit by appearance, but by flavor and structure too."
"That company also highly values social, sustainable, and responsible business practices. Their certifications like GlobalGAP, GRASP and PlanetProof prove that," Willem explains.
"This season, there will, overall, about 25% fewer oranges in Spain. Navelinas sizes are much smaller, but the later varieties (Navel Lane Late / Navel Powell) should be somewhat larger."
"Compared to last season, costs have increased between 50 to 150%, so things aren't going to get any easier. Still, we'll begin receiving plenty of nice, tasty oranges and are optimistic about the upcoming season," Willem concludes.
