The planting of garlic for the new season is basically over, and it is expected that the export market will be stable in the later period

At this stage, in China, the cultivation of garlic for the new season has basically ended. Recently, the weather conditions have been relatively stable, and it is expected that there will be no major fluctuations in the garlic market in the later period.

"In terms of exports, affected by various factors related to the pandemic, the demand from overseas markets is still unstable. Nevertheless, so far this year, our export value has been on the rise, which is mainly due to our cost-effective garlic products." Ms. Annie Chen, Sales Manager of Jining Fenduni Foodstuff Co., Ltd., recently shared her views on the development of the garlic market with Freshplaza.

In the past two years, among the many export challenges, the large fluctuation of international freight has been a major problem that importers and exporters have to face. Fortunately, this problem has eased in recent times. In September, international ocean freight rates fell to a large extent but started to rebound slightly in October, especially for shipping containers, which have now doubled.

Nonetheless, Ms. Chen is not worried about this: "Considering the overall weak demand in foreign markets, the increase in sea freight will not be much in the next period of time." When asked about the impact of the Ukrainian war on exports, she said, "Odessa is a very important port, and the Ukrainian market has been closed due to the war. In this case, neighboring countries are trying to change the port of entry to increase imports, such as Romanian ports. "

In addition, due to high shipping costs, many overseas producing areas began to grow garlic themselves, especially some countries in South America, which had a certain impact on China's exports. Ms. Annie Chen explained: "But the freight has fallen to a low point. I believe that Chinese garlic can quickly win back more market share with its high quality and cost-effective advantages."
