This move has broken the long-term bottleneck of Jinjiang carrot seed dependence on imports, it will effectively reverse the industrial situation of high cost, high risk and limited bargaining rights, and open up a broader world for the development of the Jinjiang carrot industry.
"The dependence of seed imports has always been a problem for the carrot industry. Coupled with the adjustment of the industrial structure and the occupation of the northern market, Jinjiang carrots face difficulties such as high costs, high risks, and large market price fluctuations." Zhuang Feiyun, the expert from the Institute of Vegetables and Flowers, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences said. This variety not only has excellent comprehensive traits but also brings low investment risk due to its low cost.
In fact, in addition to high quality and low cost, the promotion of "Xihong 202" to start large-scale planting is also due to the expansion of domestic sales channels. In Fuzhou, in order to welcome the sales season of "Xihong 202" in Jinjiang factories including warehousing, sorting, packaging and freezing warehouses have been expanded.
"'Xihong 202' carrot is a fruit type and can be used for both fruits and vegetables. It tastes sweet and delicate, with fewer fibers. It is especially suitable for juicing and can better meet consumers' demand for healthy food." Peng Xuejuan, General Manager of Fujian Fuxi Seed introduced.
The opening of new sales channels has also allowed more farms to see the development opportunities of new varieties. This year, Jinjiang has promoted the cultivation of "Xihong 202" carrots to 7 farms. In China, the planting area of "Xihong 202" carrot variety has exceeded 200 hectares. For the future, Peng Xuejuan is full of confidence, "In 3 to 5 years, we will strive to promote the planting area of this variety in China to reach more than 3,000 hectares."
