Seasonal fruit trade is booming, the festival effect drives fruit prices

Recently, driven by new varieties and seasonal fruits, as well as the demand for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, the fruit market prices are all on the rise.

The main reasons for the increase in the average price of fruit products are: first, the production cost of fruits and people’s living costs have increased; second, affected by natural disasters, the production of cantaloupe, pomelo, pomegranate, and kiwi has decreased to varying degrees, and the price of seasonal fruit is rising. Last but not least, the demand for fruits during the Mid-Autumn Festival is increasing, which leads to a shortage of some supply. However, the increase in the average price of fruit is also related to the quality of the fruit itself.

As far as the pomelo in the market is concerned, the varieties have been changed. Many high-quality varieties in the past are outdated. In addition to the traditional varieties such as white pomelo, red pomelo, and Sanhong pomelo, new varieties have quickly become popular in the past two years and favored by the market.

In addition, Vietnam has become the second ASEAN country to export fresh durian to China after Thailand. However, due to the impact of the pandemic this year, the overall volume of products entering the market is relatively small. Compared with Thai durians, although the price of Vietnamese durians is lower, the quality is still in the adjustment period. It is necessary to grasp the technical improvement according to the time of transportation and customs clearance in order to obtain stable quality.

After the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday effects, market transactions remained stable in October, but the current pandemic situation is still severe, and transactions will not pick up too much in the short term. As the weather gradually turns colder, some fruits that prevent dryness have become the focus of sales. At the same time, a large number of stored fruits will be launched into the market, which will also promote a steady decline in fruit prices. It is expected that apples, oranges, and pomelo will dominate the market in the later period, and durian among imported fruits will also usher in a new season.
