Greek kiwi season starting near the end of October

“We expect an increase of about 15% in kiwi production”

In about a month, the Greek kiwi season will kick off. According to Christos Mitrosilis, CEO of Greek fruit exporter Mitrosilis, the kiwis will be slightly smaller in size this year: “Our Hayward kiwi season will start in the last days of October and will continue until May. The fruits are looking good, quality is on a good level, except for the kiwis from isolated areas that had damages due to hail or other weather. That said, the kiwi fruits are one or two sizes smaller this season compared to last year.”

Mitrosilis expects a larger quantity in the harvest this season. “Greece is stronger than previous years in terms of volumes. We expect an increase of about 15% in production. The estimation of the total yield in Greece is 355.000 tons.”

Like so many other countries in Europe, Greece is also struggling with increasing costs, Mitrosilis explains: “We have to deal with the surging energy prices, which affect so many aspects of our business. From the raw materials to storage costs, packing materials, logistics and so on. Despite these challenges, we are constantly expanding our business network. Right now, we export in 24 countries in Europe and we are also growing our share in Asia and both the North and South American market.”

“We are committed to package fruits that meet the highest expectations of our customers and consumers, with regard to quality, variety, taste, food safety and hygiene; with awareness of our responsibility towards society and providing quality services to our customers, suppliers, employees and to the general public.”

With Fruit Attraction coming up, Mitrosilis is preparing to make the trip to Madrid. “We welcome anyone with interest in quality kiwis from Greece to our stand. We’re hoping to see a lot of our current clients, as well as introduce our produce to potential customers. We’re feeling good about the exhibition!” he concludes.

Mitrosilis SA will be exhibiting during Fruit Attraction, you can find them at Hall 10, stand 10G09.
