Exports from Pakistan to Afghanistan increased to $95.5 million in August 2022, up 92% from August 2021. The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) said that the increased facilitation at the crossing points between Afghanistan and Pakistan has caused the increase in imports.
Khairuddin Mayal, deputy head of ACCI: “Because of the facilities provided at the crossing points and ports between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and due to 24/7 services, the exports from Pakistan to Afghanistan and from Afghanistan to Pakistan have increased.”
Still, Afghan traders expressed concerns, saying that Pakistan has increased tariffs on Afghan commodities. “The fresh fruits which are being exported are being stopped by Pakistan in every fruit season. Pakistan has issued new laws and increased tariffs on Afghan fruits. The fruits are being stopped at the port and there it spoils,” said one trader.
