Extremadura increased its fruit and vegetable exports in the first half of this year

Extremadura's fruit and vegetable exports in the first half of the year grew by 3% in volume and 8% in value over the same period of the previous year, totaling 57,163 tons and 97.5 million euro, according to data from the Department of Customs and Excise processed by FEPEX.

In these first six months of the year, the region exported a total of 37,807 tons of fruit worth 76.3 million euro. Nectarines led fruit exports with 13,160 tons, followed by cherries with 7,334 tons, peaches with 5,691 tons, and plums with 4,894 tons.

In the first half of 2022, Extremadura exported 19,336 million kilos of vegetables worth 21.2 million euro. Cabbage exports stood out with 8,697 tons.

In 2021, Extremadura's fresh fruit and vegetable exports experienced a 24% increase in volume and a 31% increase in value over 2020, standing at 162,321 tons worth 220.4 million euro.

In 2021, Extremadura exported 132,095 tons of fruit (+34%) for 131.7 million euro (41%). Fruit exports were led by plum with 52,429 tons and 60.4 million euro, making Extremadura the main Spanish autonomous community plum exporter. Plums were followed by nectarines with 31,976 tons and 40.4 million euro, peaches with 13,978 tons and 16.8 million euro, and cherries with 13,322 tons and 38.3 million euro.

In 2021, Extremadura exported 30,226 tons of vegetables (-7%) for a value of 34.9 million euro (-6%).
