Thai media reported that in announcing the data on border trade and cross-border trade transactions in April 2022, Zhu Lin, Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, pointed out that the value of large border trade transactions was 127.152 billion baht, down 10.83% from the same period last year. He pointed out that the decline in the value of border trade transactions was partly due to exporters switching to sea and air instead of road transport, which reduced the export portion of road transport by 9.49%.
As for cross-border border trade, Thailand’s trade in April with China, Singapore, Vietnam and other third-party road transport border trade totaled 45.651 billion baht, down 34.77% year-on-year. China remains Thailand's largest cross-border land trader, with exports of 11.965 billion baht, down 45.01%, with major commodities such as fresh/quick-frozen/preserved fruits, rubber products and wood.
Zhu Lin said that on the one hand, the benefits of exports are that countries are relaxing restrictions on pandemic prevention and promoting trade normalization. At the same time, there is the devaluation of the Thai baht against the US dollar, and finally, the Ministry of Commerce and relevant parties have integrated resources and proposed policies and measures to support exports.
