The wholesale price of fresh mangoes is nearly 50% higher than last year

After entering March, the weather is getting warmer and spring fruits are also on the market. The fragrant and sweet mango has become the favorite of many citizens. Recently, the price of mangoes has somewhat “made costumers stay away”. In this regard, relevant experts said that the reason for the high price of mangoes this year is that the fruit-producing area is affected by the pandemic and weather. Prices are expected to fall back by the end of the month.

The "high price" of mangoes is expected to drop at the end of the month due to the pandemic and the weather
Recently mango prices were higher than in the same period last year, up 48% year-on-year. Regarding the reasons for the price increase of mangoes this year, some insiders said that mangoes are tropical fruits, mainly produced in Vietnam and Hainan. Affected by the pandemic, imported fruits need to be strictly quarantined, which leads to a longer entry time. Therefore, at present, the Zhougudui market is mainly made of domestic mangoes from Hainan and other origins. When domestic mangoes are not in the market in large quantities, prices will rise once supply exceeds demand.

In addition, the weather is another factor that affects the price of mangoes. Since February, some southern regions such as Fujian, Guangdong, and Hainan have experienced an increase in rainfall and relatively cold climate, which has led to an increase in the cost of mango harvesting and shipping, then the price has risen accordingly. Coupled with the continuous wet and cold weather brought about by rain and cooling weather, tropical fruits such as mangoes are "hurt by the cold", thus reducing production, and the price is also rising. It is expected that the price of mangoes will drop in about ten to fifteen days.
