Shanghai Huizhan Wholesale Market - Week 50

First sea-freight cherries of the season arrive and product movement of Israeli grapefruit is regular

The cargo ship Cochrane arrived on the 12th of December in Hong Kong with the first Chilean sea-freight cherries of the season. The first container of this shipment arrived in Shanghai Huizhan Wholesale Market on the 13th of December. The first container came from Garces Fruit and contained standard 2.5 kg boxes of Santina cherries that sold at 310-380 yuan [48.61-59.58 USD].

The supply volume of sea-freight cherries is still limited, so the price difference between sea-freight and air-freight cherries remains small. In addition, the first Chilean Kordia cherries arrived by air on the 16th of December. They were quickly sold out. Wholesale traders are eager to purchase Chilean cherries.

In addition to the Chilean cherries, which always draw attention from near and far, there are also small volumes of Shine Muscat grapes from Korea. Their product movement in Shanghai Huizhan Wholesale Market is rather slow. Top-quality Shine Muscat grapes sell for 310-320 yuan [48.61-50.17 USD] per 2kg.

The production season of Peruvian blueberries is in full swing. The supply volume of sea-freight blueberries is more or less the same as in week 49. The price is stable around 85-105 yuan [13.33-16.46 USD] per 1.5 kg.

Israeli grapefruit is also available, but the supply volume is rather small. Product movement is regular. The price is around 170-180 yuan [26.65-28.22 USD] per 15kg. At the same time, a small volume of hairy peaches from Australia arrived by air. The current price is around 220-280 yuan [34.49-43.90] per 3.75kg.

As for domestic fruit, the Driscoll's blueberries from Yunnan draw a lot of attention. Market supply is steady and they have been on the market for some time, but the price fluctuations remain minimal. The current price of large blueberries is around 240 yuan [37.63 USD] per 1.5kg, and for medium-sized blueberries the price is around 160 yuan [25.09 USD] per 1.5kg.

The product movement in Shanghai Huizhan Wholesale Market is likely to speed up in the coming weeks as Chinese Spring Festival [1 February, 2022] is approaching. The holiday always stimulates the Chinese fruit market, especially for premium fruits that make great gifts. 2.5kg bags of import cherries are particularly popular with Chinese consumers.
