The Department of Agriculture has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority to build a cold examination facility, that must help deter smuggling in the freeport zone. Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar and SBMA Chairman and Administrator Wilma Eisma inked the deal on Friday.
The new facility, which will be located on a 2,000 m2 property under SBMA, will inspect imported containerized agri-fishery commodities. The DA said that the facility will also prevent the possible entry of transboundary diseases into the country.
Once completed, the facility will be the country’s firs. All parties concerned hope it will help in boosting the country’s food safety regulatory system.
