Western plums from Xinjiang are very juicy, their peel is thin, and their fragrance is sweet. This is one of the most popular premium domestic fruits in the Chinese market. The retail season begins around August 20th and continues until late October.

Xinjiang plums are one of the main fruits that Jiaxing Minlong Trade and Commerce deals in. Mr. Zhu Wentong, spokesperson for the company, introduced their product: "The production volume in the north of Xinjiang slightly declined this year. That is mainly because of an unexpected cold current in February. Some of the trees were damaged by the frost. Production areas in the south of Xinjiang, however, enjoyed excellent weather conditions this year. The harvest there is abundant," said Mr. Zhu. "Many plums were left on the trees last year because of the pandemic. They dropped from the trees and were left to rot where they fell. Now that the restrictions are looser, the harvest has increased, and the market supply volume is around 20% larger than last year."
"The plums entered the market last week. Market conditions are not very clear yet. Some plums sell at 8 yuan [1.24 USD] per 0.5 kg, while others sell for 12 yuan [1.86 USD] per 0.5 kg. Many farmers try to be the first on the market and seize the advantages of that position, so they all begin harvesting large volumes around the same time. That is why the market supply volume is several times higher now than around the same time last year," said Mr. Zhu. "We expect the conditions to stabilize in a few weeks. The price is likely to begin rising by the middle of September."

Jiaxing Minlong Trade and Commerce owns cooperative plum orchards in Xinjiang with a total surface are of several hundred hectares. "Our sales volume is expected to reach 3,000 tons this year. That would be an increase of 50% compared to last year," explained Mr. Zhu. "Although the outbreak of Covid-19 has largely been brought under control, the market is still limited by prevention measures. The cost price of distribution is higher than usual."
When asked about the unique qualities of Jiaxing Minlong Trade and Commerce, Mr. Zhu replied: "Our main advantage is our own plum orchard. Having our own orchard gives us a price advantage and allows us to better control product quality."
Jiaxing Minlong Trade and Commerce has been active in the Chinese market for agricultural products for more than 20 years. The company has more than 30 market stands in first-tier wholesale markets such as Jiaxing in Zhejiang and Linyi in Shandong. The company maintains close relations with fruit producers inside and outside China. In addition to plums, the company also manages retail of premium domestic fruits such as cherry tomatoes, mangoes, Baba tangerines, Orri mandarins, winter jujubes, and seedless pomegranates, as well as Southeast Asian import fruit such as dragon fruit, durian, and longan.

The company will participate in the Shanghai International Fruit Expo on October 8-10. Mr. Zhu said: "We look forward to this exposition and hope to connect with many visiting traders there. We see this as an opportunity to bring our top-quality fruit products to the attention of a wider audience."
