Citrus in high demand in Bengaluru due to Covid

Generally, citrus fruits are recommended for Covid patients to help them boost their immunity and build antibodies. As there are still many Covid-19 cases in India, the demand for citrus is at an all-time high and the prices have hit the roof.

A HOPCOMS price list shows that a kilogram of mosambi costs Rs 158 per kg. For lemons its Rs 85 per kg and oranges are at Rs 118 per kg.

One fruit trader said: "It is the season of mangoes and in previous years, there was a huge demand for this fruit. However, mango lovers are still buying the king of fruits, but there is also an unusual demand for citrus fruits. The buyers say that they want to buy only C fruits due to their immunity-building characteristic. However, as this is not the right season for C fruits, the supplies are also hit due to lockdown. With these and various other factors, the prices have hit the roof."
