"We have opened independent export channels"

"Production volume of Chinese bayberries from Xianju slightly declined this year"

The Chinese bayberry season is about to kick off in Xianju county. The first bayberries to arrive on the market are the Chinese chestnut bayberries. They enter the market on the 5th of June. The extreme weather conditions late last year and early this year did not either rush or delay the bayberries, but the weather conditions did affect the production volume. This year the production volume of Chinese bayberries is smaller than last year.

Chinese bayberries from Xianju

Xianju is one of the main bayberry production areas in China. There are many different bayberry varieties, including the chestnut bayberry, black plum bayberry, and the Dongkui bayberry. The surface area devoted to the plantation of Dongkui bayberries is larger than for other varieties. The Dongkui bayberry is quite popular with Chinese consumers, because the size is several times bigger than other bayberry varieties. In Xianju 98% of the bayberries are sold fresh. The remaining 2% is processed into wine, juice, and dried fruit.

In addition to Xianju, another major production areas is Yunnan. The bayberries from Yunnan occupy a steady share of the Chinese market. However, they do not compete with Xianju bayberries. "Yunnan bayberries enter the Chinese market every year in late April or early May, and then leave the market again in late May or early June. Xianju bayberries enter the market in June. That is why the two production areas do not compete, because their harvest seasons do not overlap." This is according to Mr. Ying Jun, head of Xianju county Junlang Specialized Plantation Cooperation.

Mr. Ying Jun further explained: "Xianju bayberries have an advantage over bayberries from other production areas. The weather conditions and geographical features of Xianju, as well as the PH value of the soil here, are all superior to other bayberry production areas. These natural conditions, combined with scientific plantation management and awareness of product quality, all contribute to the fame of Xianju bayberries. These are all essential elements of successful bayberry plantation. We have been through years of development to occupy a steady position in the market and in the hearts of our customers. Maintaining the highest product quality is our main responsibility!"

The price of Xianju bayberries has been stable for years. There are annual fluctuations within a 2%-3% range. This is primarily because both product price and consumer spending slightly rise every year as domestic production grows. In addition, the cost price of raw material increases every year.

"We primarily sell our bayberries online now, but supplement online sales with traditional retail channels. Chinese express delivery systems rapidly develop and stimulate economic growth in other industries as well. Dropshipping has already become one of the most popular forms of delivery. We are also working hard to perfect our export procedures. We have opened up independent export channels this year, so that the fame of Xianju bayberries can spread abroad, as far as Europe and North America, as well as Southeast Asia. Bayberries are a traditional Chinese fruit product, and they are very suitable as personal gifts. We welcome clients who are interested in bayberries to contact us. Together we can explore commercial opportunities," said Mr. Ying Jun.
