Fresh garlic entered the Chinese market in large volumes at the beginning of May. That is when the market entered a new phase marked by a rising trend. The overall price is significantly higher than in April. There are several reasons for this development. First, the supply volume of dried garlic is growing. Second, the garlic price has been relatively high since the beginning of this year and that trend continues. The export price of garlic destined for Europe is at least 60% higher than around this time last year, which is a record high.

"Several shipping companies have already announced in the last few weeks that we have entered a new period of rising garlic prices. The price is likely to rise even higher in June. That also means the problems of finding sufficient storage space will grow more intense. Based on these conditions we predict that overseas order volumes will likely not reach last year's proportions. However, there will always be a certain demand from a loyal core of clients. That is how trade remains balanced." This is according to Ms. Annie Chen, sales manager at Jining Fenduni Foodstuff Co., Ltd.
Ms. Annie Chen stated that "Jinxing, one of the largest garlic production areas in China, has been through years of development and is now home to a mature industry. The overall surface area devoted to garlic plantation in Jinxiang remains stable over the years. The vast majority of Chinese export garlic comes from Jinxiang."
