7-fold increase in volume of Georgia’s apple exports

The value of Georgia's apple exports in the period from September to October 18, 2020 amounted to $ 1,098,000. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, this is 4.7 times higher than a year ago.

In this period, 2,514 tons of Georgian apples have been exported, which is almost 7 times more than a year earlier. Of the total volume, 2,432 tons, or 97%, were supplied to Russia. Kazakhstan ranks second among the main export markets for Georgian apples, with 75 tons, or 3%. Small consignments of apples were also shipped to Armenia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The apple harvest in Georgia started in the first week of September. A record harvest of apples is expected in the country this year, with about 120 thousand tons. For comparison: the apple harvest in 2017 amounted to 20 thousand tons; in 2018, to 83 thousand tons; in 2019, to 44 thousand tons. The main supplier in the country is the Shida Kartli region.

Within the framework of the "Unified Agricultural Project", the state supports the modernization of traditional orchards in the country and the setting up of modern orchards. With the support of the "Plant the Future" project, which has been implemented since 2015 (part of the United Agricultural Project), 1 thousand 128 hectares of intensive and semi-intensive apple orchards have been planted in Georgia.
