Fuji apples from Jingning, Gansu have become available for ordering. Although the order volume is yet not large, prices are good. The current price is significantly higher than expected. Some said that the price this year would be generally lower due to a good harvest; others said that the impact of frost this year is not significant as the production would only be less than 5% lower. However, it can be seen that the order prices of late Fuji apples have turned around significantly and are higher than last year. So what are the reasons for this?
The main reason is lower production. The frost this year has greatly affected two of the three major apple production areas in China. As a result, there is even fewer premium grade fruit for gift boxes, so prices are naturally rising.
Another factor is that as traders rush to purchase premium-grade products each year, so prices are always high at the beginning of the season. Prices are expected to fall around October 10th, as the best quality products will have been purchased and the ones left can only be purchased as general-grade. In addition, traders and growers will be using a variety of tactics and this will tend to lower prices for orders.
