"The first Xiale watermelons of the season hit the market on May 11, slightly earlier than last year, and will be supplied through the end of August. The sales market this year so far has not been as good as last year. There are a few reasons for this. First of all, under the influence of Covid-19, the overall fruit market is in a slump. Secondly, our peak production period this year overlapped with that of the main production areas of Kirin watermelons across China, so prices have been volatile. In addition, the main sales areas have been frequently hit by rainy weather,” the manager of Xiale Agricultural Technology Service Co., Ltd. said.

“Our main varieties this year are still 8424 and meidu. After launching these products, we have received good market feedback. This is partly thanks to the fact that the stable weather in our production area has provided good natural conditions for growth. On the other hand, we implement standardized management and control throughout the entire process and the purchasing team operates efficiently, resulting in high sweetness and good quality in our products and stability in our supply.”

“Due to the unpredictable weather during the early part of this year, part of the crop suffered from diseases and issues of cracking, resulting in rather severe damages. With this in mind, we introduced more than 50 new varieties this year for trials, such as Huazhixiu No.3 and Green Tiger, and found that part of the varieties were performing very well. In the future, we will develop diversified and serialized varieties to meet the needs of different consumer groups."

"In terms of packaging, Xiale conducts research and development following the principles of being cost-effective and visually appealing, so as to maintain brand recognition while reducing costs. We launched a new product package of a yellow box specially designed for our online business. In the future, we plan to expand our sales to the whole country by setting up distributors in each city and implementing regional protection policies. At the same time, we also established online sales channels, which are a new addition this year. The volumes are yet not high, but as we update our varieties, we expect online sales to increase in stages, and we will eventually integrate online and offline business to expand our brand awareness."
